Guided tours - a day to remember!

Littlethorpe Potteries is a working heritage site and the oldest continually working pottery in the country. It is also the only pottery in the country where you can see the manufacturing process in its entirety - 'From Pit to Patio' as we like to say. As such we believe our guided tours offer something a bit different.

Our tours can be tailor made to your requirements but in general take about 1½ to 3 hours.

1½ hour tours

1½ hour tours include an introduction to the pottery, a look at the clay pit (not compulsory), see the belt driven railway winch, pugmill and water pump in action (all original equipment) and then a pottery demonstration. The demonstration is followed by a brief presentation on drying techniques and then the tricks of the trade when packing a kiln.

3 hour tours

3 hour tours as above but with individuals getting the chance to make a pot on one of our cone driven wheels. All pots will be fired free of charge.

We have in the past catered for a large range of groups including commercial coach tours, school trips (schemes of work are available), gardening clubs and various corporate hospitality groups. Please contact us to discuss available dates, appropriate numbers and fees.
